Medical Guardian Review
If you’re looking to purchase a medical alert device, there are definitely a lot of options out there you could choose from. However, Medical Guardian definitely deserves to be right there toward the top of your list. Don’t take Florence Henderson’s word for it, though – even if she is a customer and brand advocate. Instead, keep reading as, below, we’re going to look into the various types of products they offer, how much they cost and whether or not they make sense for your unique situation.
How Does Medical Guardian Work?
Medical Guardian actually provides four different products, so instead of just describing the most basic option, let’s look at each in a bit of detail:
Classic Guardian: This unit plugs into your home’s landline telephone jack and can reach a range of 1,300 feet. The battery backup for this unit will last 32 hours.
Home Guardian: This device is Medical Guardian’s most popular option. It has a range of 600 feet, but is completely wireless. The product is compatible with fall detection features too. The battery backup on it is good for 30 hours.
Mobile Guardian: This mobile solution is GPS-enabled and, therefore, can keep the user safe anywhere they want to go. It has a range of 350 feet and battery life of 24 hours.
Premium Guardian: The company’s newest product, Medical Guardian claims that Premium Guardian is the most advanced device on the entire market. Fall detection features can be added to it as well for an even better product. It has an unlimited range, yet still comes with a wearable transmitter. The battery life for this product is 36 hours.
Like most products on the market, the one thing all four of the options above have in common is that the user gets a wearable pendant. It comes with a button the user can push whenever they’re in need of emergency assistance. Users can wear it as a necklace or bracelet.
Doing so will put them in contact with trained staffers who are manning the phones 24/7 and will stay on the line with a caller until help arrives.
However, they are also trained in making the right decision based on the circumstances. Sometimes, this may mean calling for an ambulance. Other times, though, the wearer may simply need some assistance from a family member.
That being said, if the worker gets no response, they are trained to call 911 on behalf of the wearer right away.
Medical Guardian is one of the younger companies in the emergency medical service industry. The company was founded back in 2005.
They didn’t waste any time gaining market share though. The secret to Medical Guardian’s success seems to be that they continue looking for ways to stay on the cutting edge of technology while still understanding their market.
For example, as we mentioned above, they have invested heavily in the development of mobile medical alert systems and auto fall alert detection. This allows wearers to experience even greater amounts of independence, and it means they can leave the home and go out on their own.
At the same time, the company hasn’t forgotten that many in their market still have landlines in their homes. While there is an argument to be made that this method is still more reliable than mobile technology, it’s also leveraging what their customer base already prefers.
The company’s headquarters is located in Philadelphia, but they have customers in every state in the country.
Cost of Medical Guardian
Prices for Medical Guardian products begin at $29.95 a month. For the Home Guardian, you’re looking at $34.95 a month. Mobile Guardian is $39.95 and their Premium Garden is $49.95.
You will be billed quarterly for these products, but can receive a free month of service if you elect to handle your entire year at once. The company also runs a number of great deals throughout the year that could add up to serious savings too.
It’s also worth noting that there are no long-term contracts with Medical Guardian. Obviously, if you decide to pay for an entire year at once, that’s kind of the same thing, but it’s completely your call. You also won’t get hit with any type of activation fee.
The number of products they offer is pretty great. Also, because they lack lengthy contracts, you could sign up for the most basic option and, if it turns out you need a bit more, upgrade as necessary. Then it might make sense to pay ahead so as to enjoy some extra savings on those features you like most.
A lot of those features are really great too. As we mentioned above, Medical Guardian is always looking to bring their products one step further into the future. Their GPS-enabled device is a good example of this.
Finally, their site offers a free risk assessment test. This will better help you decide which device is right for you. It will also go a long way toward helping you better understand what kinds of risks you might be facing by living alone.
The one major criticism that Medical Guardian receive is that they don’t handle their call centers in-house. Basically, they outsource this very important job to a third-party. It’s still a certified monitoring center located in the U.S. The center is UL-listed and manned by 911 trained professionals.
For the most part, then, no one should be too put off by this one drawback. The company clearly isn’t lacking for passionate customers.
However, others would suggest that by not keeping this important element in-house, they’re running the risk of customer support lacking. Again, that doesn’t seem to be an issue at the moment, but it is worth keeping in mind.
Medical Guardian is a pretty easy brand to recommend simply because it has four different products and extremely convenient payment options. While you should definitely consider all of the other options out there, there’s a reason why so many choose a Medical Guardian emergency response system.
